This is a Lionel 6446-25 Norfolk and Western Covered 4-Bay Hopper from 1955-57. The 6446 Covered Quad hopper was first produced in 1954. It remained in the Lionel family until 1957. During that time it did experience some minor changes. After 1957, it made a brief appearance in 1963, but only lasted for that one year. The 6446 is not an easy item to find in collectable condition. At the same time, general interest in hoppers is minimal. Therefore, this is one of the few scenarios where a hard to find item can be purchased at a reasonable price. This hopper features die-cast metal trucks, die-cast metal operating knuckle couplers, metal wheels and axles.

This item has been graded per TCA standards C-6: Very Good based on visual appearance. There are scratches, markings, and rust spots along the body and underframe. The wheelsets show signs of wear.
