This is an MTH 40-1028 O Scale Infrared Track Activation Device (I.T.A.D.).

It is designed to work with MTH Realtrax. This is an electronic relay that has a set of contacts like the old Lionel 153C. There is a common center contact and a normally open contact and a normally open contact to be used with block signals. The normally open contact tyically connects to the red light, and the normally closed contact goes to the green light. Instead of sensing a train in a block by weight like the 153C, it senses the train via an infared beam. Features intricately detailed ABS construction, fully assembled, plug-in connection, multiple accessory control, and 10 amp capacity.
