This is a Lionel 2628 Vintage O Lionel Lines Madison Heavyweight “Manhattan” Passenger Car Type II from 1948 to 1950 with the taped coupler coils and the first L in Lionel Lines is about the left window in the center group. The 2628 Pullman Passenger Car is part of the Madison-style passenger car series. This term — Madison-style — was not used by Lionel in its catalogues or literature, but was created by Lionel enthusiasts during the post-war era. To this day, the Madison-style passenger cars remain in demand by collectors and operators. It features opening doors, a strong bakelite body, an illuminated interior, clear window strips, 6-wheel plastic sided trucks with metal wheels and axles and operating knuckle couplers and is 15 inches long. The Madison cars were Lionels top of the line passenger cars in the 1940s.
