This is a Lionel early version of the 397 Rubber Belt Coal Loader from 1948 with the yellow painted motor cover and the attached #70 yard light. This version is especially hard to find. The version with the blue motor cover is the common version. When activated the motor turns the rubber drive belt which loads coal into a waiting car. In addition coal can be dumped into the loader from a car. The 397 can also be used in conjunction with the 456 Coal Ramp. It measures 7 inches tall x 10 inches long x 7 inches wide.
This item has been graded per TCA standards C-6: Very Good based on visual appearance. There are light nicks, scratches, and spots of surface rust on this item. The overall appearance of this item may be improved with a gentle and thorough cleaning. The original box is not included. The instruction manual is not included. Overall condition is Very Good.
