Here is a Lionel 6-8578 O Gauge New York Central Motorized Ballast Tamper Car from 1985. This is a reissue of the Postwar Era 54 Ballast Tamper. It features a set of small pile drivers on the front that move up and down and “tamp” down the ballast rock along the track. The tamping action is controlled by track activators. When the tamping action is activated, the motor slows down to half speed.

This item has been graded per TCA standards C-7: Excellent based on visual appearance. The wheels show signs of wear. There are light nicks and scratches on the surface of this item. The overall appearance of this item may be improved with a gentle and thorough cleaning. The previous owner has placed stickers on this item’s packaging. The original box is included.
