This is a Lionel 6470 Vintage O Exploding Boxcar from 1959-60. It has a mousetrap spring type mechanism inside with two sides and a roof that are designed to fly apart easily when the car is struck with something, like a plastic missile! To use the car, you set the trigger mechanism inside, then carefully set the sides and roof on it and then fire away! When it is hit, the whole thing flies apart quite spectacularly! You can also run it around as a regular boxcar by not setting the trigger mechanism and using the locking pin that holds it all together.

It features a plastic body construction, die-cast trucks with metal wheels, and operating knuckle couplers.

This item has been graded per TCA standards C-7: Excellent based on visual appearance. This item appears to have been run sparingly, and displays overall signs of light previous use. There are some scratches, nicks and imperfections on the paint consistent with age and use. The original box is included. Please check the photos for a detailed look at this item.
